Root: Cooked and used to treat bones swollen by rheumatism.

Leaf: Infusion for intestinal disturbances, pain after childbirth, stomach cramps and various swellings.

Fruit: Sap used to heal wounds.

Seed: In a drink to cure lumbar pain.

Origin: Asian plant introduced to Suriname.

Range. Temperate and tropical Asia, from China to the Moluccas; Australia. In Myanmar, found in Bago, Rakhine, and Yangon.

Uses
Fruit: Used as a laxative.

Seed: Used to treat chest problems and in parturition.

Origin

Cultivated throughout the country, especially found in Assam, Bengal, South India and Andaman Islands.

Action:

Leaf and fruit—used externally for lumbago, ulceration, fracture of bone.

Seed—bechic, aperient, emmenagogue, anti-inflammatory, deobstruent. (Used for obstructions of liver and spleen).
